Australian RPG

Reeducação Postural Dinâmica/Pilates(Dynamic Postural Reeducation/Pilates)

Muscle dysfunction is a significant factor in musculoskeletal pain disorders and there is a growing body of scientific evidence to support the use of retraining the muscle system in the management of patients with chronic pain disorders. Much of this research has been carried out in Australia at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia and also at Queensland University in Brisbane, Queensland. Manual therapists must assess the individual patient for evidence of “muscle imbalance” that might be a contributing factor to the patients presenting problem. If dysfunction is found an individualized treatment programme is developed to correct the muscle dysfunction and muscle imbalance.

In Brazil this system of assessment is termed Australian RPG (Australian Global Postural Re-education). Valeria Figueiredo Cursos offer a comprehensive course in Australian RPG, spread over 6 days, designed to introduce the theoretical basis and scientific evidence for this concept. In addition this course provides a logical and precise assessment process, to include assessment of static alignment, dynamic postural control and functional capacity. Once a diagnosis has been made, correction of dysfunction can be made for patients with or without pain. In Brazil it is common for patients to attend physiotherapists for assessment and correction of faulty posture. The Australian RPG course will enable physiotherapists to manage patients with postural dysfunction either in the presence or absence of pain.
